In a Brazilian Butt Lift, fat is taken from your own body and re-injected into the buttocks. Not every transferred cell survives, so the shape you see on day one is not the shape you will keep. Understanding what happens to the fat helps you set realistic expectations and protect your result.
Transferred fat needs to develop a new blood supply in its new location. Some of it does; some does not and is absorbed by the body over the first weeks. Surgeons therefore plan for this, and the volume you see immediately after surgery includes swelling and fat that will not all remain. Your surgeon can explain how they account for this in your case.
This is the period when the sitting rule matters most. Pressure on the buttocks can reduce blood flow to the new fat cells, which is why sitting is restricted for around 2 weeks. Our BBL recovery guide explains how to lie, stand and travel during this phase, and you will wear compression garments as instructed.
As swelling resolves, the contour changes and often looks different from the first weeks. The donor areas (abdomen, waist or thighs) also settle and become smoother. Do not judge the result at this stage; it is still changing.
Final results are usually visible after 2–3 months as swelling resolves. By now the fat that has taken is largely established, and this is the realistic point to assess your shape and discuss any questions with your surgeon through your MedAgent coordinator.
Following the sitting and garment instructions, staying hydrated, keeping a stable weight and avoiding smoking all support healing and a lasting result. Because the transferred fat behaves like the rest of your body fat, significant weight gain or loss later can change your shape.
Contact your surgeon promptly about fever, spreading redness, severe or worsening pain, wound discharge, shortness of breath or chest pain. MedAgent stays in touch after you fly home so you always have a point of contact for follow-up.
Will I lose some of the fat?
Yes, some of the transferred fat is normally absorbed during healing. Surgeons plan for this, and the final volume is judged after the swelling has gone.
When can I sit normally again?
Sitting is restricted for around 2 weeks; your surgeon will tell you exactly when and how to reintroduce it.
Does the result last?
Fat that has taken usually remains, but your shape can still change with large weight shifts, so a stable weight helps maintain it.
