Under-Eye Bags: Is Lower Eyelid Surgery Right for You?

Not every under-eye bag needs a scalpel, but the right ones respond very well to surgery

Under-eye puffiness is one of the most common reasons people ask about eyelid surgery. Lower blepharoplasty in Turkey starts from €2,300 and is performed by experienced surgeons, yet the first question is never price: it is whether your bags are the kind that surgery can actually fix.

1. What causes under-eye bags

Bags usually come from fat that shifts forward as the supporting tissue loosens with age, sometimes combined with loose skin or fluid retention. Genetics play a large role, which is why some people notice bags in their thirties. Surgery addresses fat and excess skin; it does not treat dark pigmentation or temporary morning puffiness.

2. Who is usually a good candidate

Good candidates are in generally good health, do not smoke or are willing to stop, have realistic expectations and have bags that are visible all day rather than only after poor sleep. Your surgeon will assess skin elasticity, fat distribution and the shape of the cheek beneath the eye.

3. What the surgeon checks before recommending it

Expect questions about dry eyes, allergies, thyroid conditions, blood thinners and previous eye surgery. Lid tightness is tested because a lid that is already lax needs a different technique. Sending clear photos in natural light to MedAgent before you travel helps the surgeon give an initial opinion.

4. Lower, upper or combined

Many people find that heavy upper lids make the lower area look worse, and vice versa. Lower eyelid surgery starts from €2,300, upper from €1,600 and combined from €3,200. Your surgeon recommends the right option after an assessment, not before.

5. What to expect on the trip

No hospital stay is required, and a short hotel stay is recommended for the post-operative check-up and suture removal. Swelling and bruising are normal in the first one to two weeks, and the refined result continues to settle over the following months.

Frequently asked questions

Will I have visible scars?
Incisions are usually placed just below the lashes or inside the lid, so they are well hidden once healed.

Can fillers or creams replace surgery?
They can soften mild hollows, but they do not remove true fat bags; your surgeon can tell you which approach fits.

How long should I stay in Antalya?
Most patients plan a short stay so the surgeon can check healing and remove sutures before flying home.
