Many patients arrive asking for "a flatter stomach" without knowing whether they need liposuction, a tummy tuck or both. The answer depends on what is actually causing the bulge: stubborn fat, loose skin, or stretched abdominal muscles. This guide explains the difference, using the packages we coordinate at our partner hospitals in Turkey.
Liposuction removes localized fat deposits through small incisions and reshapes the area. It works best when skin is still reasonably elastic and the main issue is fat on the waist, flanks, thighs or arms. Prices start from €2,000 for one zone and rise with the number of zones treated, up to full body from €4,500. Most patients return to light activity within a week, and final contouring appears over 2–3 months.
Abdominoplasty tightens the abdominal muscles and removes excess skin, which liposuction cannot do. It is most often chosen after pregnancy or significant weight loss. It starts from €4,800, typically with 3 nights in hospital and 4 nights in a hotel, and leaves a lower abdominal scar whose length depends on how much skin is removed.
If your skin is firm, your muscles are in good condition and the concern is mainly fat, liposuction is usually the lighter option, with a shorter stay (about 2 nights in hospital) and a quicker return to normal life.
If you have loose or hanging skin, a separation of the abdominal muscles after pregnancy, or a belly that stays soft even at a stable weight, fat removal alone will not fix the problem. Muscle repair and skin removal are what change the shape.
Abdominoplasty with liposuction of the waist or flanks in the same operation gives more complete contouring, from €6,000 for the combined package. Because the muscle repair sets the pace of healing, expect 2–3 weeks before normal activity and a compression garment for several weeks. Plan 7–10 nights in Turkey in total.
Send us photos and your goals and we will prepare a personalized quote; the surgeon reviews your photos and recommends the areas and technique. For what comes after, see our liposuction recovery guide and tummy tuck recovery guide.
Can liposuction remove loose skin?
No. Liposuction removes fat; loose skin and stretched muscles are addressed with abdominoplasty.
Can both be done in one operation?
Yes, it is common to combine them, if your surgeon considers it appropriate for you.
How long should I stay in Turkey?
Typically 7–10 nights for a tummy tuck, including follow-up visits; liposuction alone usually needs a shorter stay.
