Glaucoma surgery from €5,000

When eye drops and laser treatment no longer keep eye pressure under control, surgery creates a new way for fluid to drain out of the eye — available at our partner ophthalmology hospitals across Turkey from €5,000 for trabeculectomy (one eye) or €5,200 for Ahmed valve implantation (one eye).

Package details

  • Eye pressure (tonometry) and visual field testing
  • Trabeculectomy or Ahmed valve surgery, one eye
  • Surgeon and hospital fees
  • Post-operative check-ups and medication

Trabeculectomy vs. a drainage valve

Trabeculectomy creates a small drainage flap under the eyelid and tends to be the first surgical option tried. An Ahmed (or similar) valve is a tiny implanted device that regulates outflow more predictably and is often used when a previous trabeculectomy has failed, or in eyes with scarring that makes a flap unlikely to stay open. There are also less invasive MIGS (minimally invasive glaucoma surgery) options for earlier-stage disease, which your surgeon can discuss if you're not yet at the point of needing a full filtering procedure.

Glaucoma surgery doesn't restore vision

It's worth being clear about what this surgery does and doesn't do: it protects the vision you have left by lowering eye pressure, it does not reverse damage that has already occurred. That's why ongoing monitoring after surgery matters as much as the procedure itself. MedAgent coordinates the appointments, hospital stay and follow-up schedule around your glaucoma treatment plan.

Steps to book

  1. Send your visual field test results and pressure readings
  2. Receive a recommendation on procedure type and a quote
  3. Travel to Turkey for pre-op assessment and surgery
  4. Stay for early follow-up, then continue monitoring at home

Questions patients ask

Will I still need eye drops after surgery? Often fewer, sometimes none — but some patients still need drops for full pressure control, which your surgeon monitors at follow-up visits.

How soon will pressure come down? Usually within days, though the eye needs weeks to settle into its final drainage pattern.

What if the surgery doesn't fully control my pressure? A second procedure, such as a valve implant after a trabeculectomy, is sometimes needed — this is discussed as part of your long-term glaucoma plan.
