One laser, one step

A femtosecond laser cuts a lens-shaped disc of tissue (a lenticule) inside the cornea and a tiny opening to remove it — the whole reshaping happens with a single laser, unlike LASIK's two-laser process. Because there's no flap, there's less to go wrong during healing: no flap dislocation risk, and generally less disruption to the corneal nerves that control tear film, which is why dry-eye symptoms tend to be milder than after LASIK.
